United States Mint to Launch America the Beautiful Quarters® Program Coin Honoring

The United States Mint will join the National Park Service to launch the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program coin honoring Saratoga National Historical Park Tuesday, Nov. 17, 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time (ET), at Schuylerville High School, 14 Spring Street (Route 29), in Schuylerville, N.Y. United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program artist Barbara Fox, designer of the Saratoga National Historical Park quarter reverse (tails side), will be available for interviews before the ceremony. Invited guests include U.S. Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Plenty of seating will be available for members of the public.  Schools and individuals wishing to follow the event remotely will be able to watch a live streaming video on WNYT TV 13’s website, www.wnyt.com.

After the ceremony, Glens Falls National Bank will run a “quarter exchange,” and individuals will be able to exchange cash for rolls of quarters, 1 roll minimum / 10 roll maximum, for $10 cash per roll.  Friends of Saratoga Battlefield www.friendsofsaratogabattlefield.org  will have a sales table for those wishing to purchase commemorative quarter sets, featuring the Saratoga quarter, for $8.50 per set.

Also, on the Monday evening before the launch, November 16th, from 5-6:00 p.m., the U.S. Mint will host a coin forum at the Saratoga Town Hall, 12 Spring Street (Route 29), Schuylerville, NY, for people wanting to learn more about this and upcoming coin programs and initiatives.

The Saratoga National Historical Park quarter is the 30th release in the United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters® Program, a 12–year initiative to honor 56 national parks and other national sites in all 50 states and the 5 U.S. territories. The coin’s reverse design depicts a close-up of the moment General John Burgoyne surrendered his sword to General Horatio Gates, a turning point many believe marked the ‘beginning of the end of the American Revolutionary War.’  Inscriptions are “BRITISH SURRENDER 1777,” “SARATOGA,” “NEW YORK,” “2015” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
