This Friday is Opening Night of SPAC’s 50th Anniversary Season and 2016 Classical Season, featuring Doug Varone and Dancers at 8:00PM. Again this season, SPAC will present Pre-Performance Talks. Friday’s Pre-Performance Talk will be with Doug Varone, the Artistic Director for Doug Varone & Dancers, starting at 7:00PM. Doug Varone and Dancers is celebrating its 30th anniversary. The company resides at the 92nd Street Y in New York City and has performed on all of the major stages and festivals across the country, as well as in Europe, Asia, Canada, and South America.
In recognition of its 50th Anniversary, SPAC has planned an unprecedented summer of world-class programming and events. Highlights of the season include: world premieres by New York City Ballet, The Philadelphia Orchestra and the Twyla Tharp Dance Company; a modern dance engagement by the award-winning Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre; a star-studded Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival with headliners including Smokey Robinson and Chick Corea; a spectacular program by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center including the SPAC chamber music premiere of Copland’s Appalachian Spring; and appearances by virtuosos during The Philadelphia Orchestra’s season including Renée Fleming, Joshua Bell and Chris Botti, Sarah Chang, and André Watts.
