Saratoga Weekend Fun

Saratoga has a weekend filled with family fun, entertainment, horses, music and so much more. You don’t want to miss out on a Saratoga summer weekend.

The most-anticipated stakes race of the Saratoga Meet will take place this Saturday, August 27th with the 147th running of the Grade I, $1.25 million Travers Stakes. With a full field of 14 starters for the first time in nearly 40 years, a sold-out paid crowd is anticipated.  The Travers field is expected to be led by Preakness and Haskell winner Exaggerator, Belmont Stakes winner Creator and the top three finishers from the Jim Dandy, the traditional Travers prep.

This year’s Travers Day will also feature five other Grade 1 stakes: the $1 million Longines Sword Dancer Invitational at 1 ½ miles on the turf, the $500,000 Ballerina for filly and mare sprinters, the $700,000 Priority One Jets Forego at seven furlongs, the $750,000 Ketel One King's Bishop and the $750,000 Personal Ensign for fillies and mares going 1 1/8 miles. Rounding out the blockbuster card is the Grade 2, $400,000 Woodford Reserve Ballston Spa for turf fillies and mares.

Gates open at 7 a.m. on Travers Day, with a special first post time of 11:35 a.m.

Before Saratoga weekend’s main event takes place, head over to watch fast-paced, live polo action at Saratoga Polo’s Spa Anniversary Cup, Friday and Sunday night at 5:30PM.  Or check out the ponies during Saratoga Casino & Raceway’s 75th anniversary season of harness racing on the beautiful half-mile track Friday and Saturday night with a 7:05PM post time.

Hang out on the roof, Friday night at The Tang for UpBeat on the Roof music series, free for all at 7:00PM. This Friday features Random 33, a small club band doing covers, instrumental, improvised jazz and new music. If you are a car enthusiast, check out the Saratoga Automobile Museum’s (SAM) Capital Region Car Club Lawn Show this Saturday, August 27th from 10AM – 2PM. See a spectacular display of Jaguars on SAM’s front lawn in the beautiful Spa State Park, grab some great food and head inside the museum to visit the current exhibits. Enjoy a docent-led garden tour on Sunday at the historic, Saratoga artist retreat, Yaddo. Or explore the gardens on your own daily from dawn to dusk, free and open to public.

Plus, Saratoga is home to an array of delectable cuisine from dozens of restaurants, unique shops and boutiques for the perfect find, nightlife with live music, museums full of history and family fun, outdoor adventures, award-winning links for golfing, soothing spa treatments and so much more.
