The Ballet Gala: The Rhythm of Romance, A Tribute to Richard Rodgers
Gala @ 5:30 P.M.
NYCB Performance @ 8 P.M.
The Ballet Gala, Saratoga Performing Arts Center’s glittering summertime social event that supports the residency of the New York City Ballet, is one of the most popular events of the Saratoga summer season. The evening’s program and theme take their inspiration from legendary Broadway composer Richard Rodgers. Works performed on the gala stage will include Christopher Wheeldon’s Carousel, a dance interpretation of the Rodgers and Hammerstein romantic classic; Peter Martins’ Thou Swell, a nod to the romance and glamour of early 20th century café society; and George Balanchine’s Slaughter on Tenth Avenue, a vampy ballet about a tragic love triangle.
The evening, spearheaded by SPAC’s fundraising committee the Action Council, includes an elaborate gourmet dinner in the Hall of Springs as well as a festive lawn party, hosted by SPAC’s Junior Committee. Fireworks, an afterglow dessert reception and live music and dancing on the lawn are a signature of the celebration. Tickets and information are available at spac.org
