Who is Carm Basile?

Carm Basile, Executive Director
Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA)
Executive Director:
Carm Basile was appointed as CDTA Executive Director in September 2009. In this position, Mr. Basile works with the CDTA Board of Directors to develop and implement visionary plans to provide high quality services and facilities to the people of the Capital Region. As Executive Director, he is responsible for the administration of the daily affairs of the Authority.
Mr. Basile is responsible for the Authority’s annual operating budget of $71 million. CDTA employs over 650 people and operates a variety of transit services throughout Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga and Schenectady counties. On a typical weekday, there are close to 50,000 boardings on CDTA buses. CDTA also operates an extensive paratransit service for people with disabilities, called STAR and it manages a transportation brokerage operation that has contracts with Rensselaer and Schenectady counties.
CDTA owns and operates the Rensselaer Rail Station and the Saratoga Springs Train Station. The Rensselaer Rail Station, which opened in 2002, is one of the busiest stations in the Amtrak route network and it serves more than 800,000 customers annually. In addition, to the rail facilities, CDTA has large, multi-functional operating facilities in Albany, Schenectady and Troy.
Work History:
Carm Basile has been employed at CDTA for more than 28 years. He has held a number of senior positions at CDTA, most recently as Deputy Executive Director for Business Development where he oversaw the Authority’s strategic planning, business development, communications, marketing, sales and customer service efforts.
Other positions he has held at CDTA include; Director of Business Development, Chief of Staff, Director of Marketing, and Transportation Planner.
Affiliations:
Mr. Basile is active in the community and serves on a number of boards and civic organizations including Clearview Center in Albany, the Colonie Senior Services Center, and the Sports Foundation of the Capital Region. He is an adjunct instructor at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy.
Education:
Mr. Basile was born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts and attended parochial schools. He holds a BA degree in Urban Studies from Worcester State College in Worcester, Massachusetts.
