The Saratoga County Chamber Opposes Paid Parking In Saratoga Springs
In the early 1970's, when we started the redevelopment effort of downtown Saratoga Springs, the first thing we did was eliminate meters and replace them with trees. Now, certain elected officials want to return meters to the City of Saratoga Springs.
The proposed meters would be installed between the Holiday Inn and the Saratoga Hilton Hotel on North Broadway and two to three blocks east and west of Broadway. The meter charge would be $1.50 per hour or any part thereof.
If you work or live downtown, you may be lucky enough to get one of a limited number of parking permits, with no reserved spot, for as low as $50.00 a month or $625.00 a year.
If you live just outside the metered district, you will find people parked all along your street who are avoiding meters each day.
We have all seen downtowns that have been destroyed by cities looking for quick money with little concern about the long-term effects.
It took forty years to build a safe and vibrant downtown filled with a unique blend of services, professional offices, eateries, shops, and beverage servers. We can assure you, based on history, our downtown will deteriorate with meters.
