Starting a business is a complicated undertaking and the most critical aspect of the venture is doing the proper research. Without the proper homework the business is doomed for failure and even worse, you may be subject to substantial financial penalties.
Over the last three decades a suggested step by step procedure has been created by the Chamber for startup and expanding businesses.
The first step is a visit to the Chamber to pick up a starting a business kit. The kit is free and provides general information for startups. The kit is not mailed. The Chamber is located at 28 Clinton Street in Saratoga Springs.
Step two is to attend a starting a business class at the Chamber. The course is normally taught on a weeknights between 5:00 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. by the Chamber President. The cost is $35.00 per participant. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 584-3255.
After performing the necessary research and developing a rough business plan, the next step is one-on-one counseling with a member of the Small Business Development Center. These free appointments are scheduled at the Chamber offices and can be made by calling 518-485-7647.
For those companies already in existence that wish to expand or are facing problems, referrals are made to SCORE, America’s Advisors To Small Business. Experienced private sector executives provide guidance through this program. Local meetings are scheduled by contacting 446-1118 ext. 233
