What can we expect to see in 2011 in our County? What changes, improvements or challenges do we need to be prepared for as business people? Our new County Administrator and 2011 Chair of the Board will present a State of the County and also be available for our questions. This event is co-hosted with the Chamber of Southern Saratoga County.

 

Who is Spencer Hellwig?

-          Spencer is 48 years old
-          Appointed County Administrator December 28, 2010
-          Employed by Saratoga County for 23 years, 13 as Deputy County Administrator
-          B.A. from Syracuse University 1985
-          Current member NYRA Local Advisory Board
-          Former Commissioner - Saratoga Springs Public Housing Authority
-          Former Commissioner Capital District Regional Planning Commission
-          Married with two children (15 yr old son and 11 yr old daughter)

 

Who is Tom Wood?

Bill Peck is the Supervisor from the Town of Northumberland and the current Chairman of the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors.  Bill has served on many of the committees at the County level since taking office in 2004 and in 2009 chaired the Law and Finance committee leading to his current role as Chairman of the Board.

 Bill is also a sixth generation dairy farmer located in the Town of Northumberland.  Bill is in partnership with his brother Neil and father William in what is known as Welcome Stock Farm.  They currently milk 550 mature registered Holsteins with an equal number of young stock focusing not only on the sale of fluid milk but also the marketing of high genetic stock including bulls and embryos to cooperatives and breeders around the world.  The farm also includes the crop production of 1300 acres.

 Bill’s educational background includes degrees from Schuylerville Central School in 1987, Cornell University in 1991 and Albany Law School in 1999.  Bill is a licensed non-practicing attorney.  His past work experience includes the United States Senate as a Legislative Assistant for Senator James Jeffords of Vermont, Minority Leader’s Office for the NYS Assembly, Lawyer for the firm of Young, Sommer located in Albany and Saratoga Springs, General Electric Power Systems’ Environment, Health and Safety Legal Department as well as managing the family dairy operation.

 Bill is a firm believer in public service not only demonstrated by his current position as Supervisor but also with the various positions he has held in the past on boards such as Saratoga Hospital, Economic Opportunity Council, Empire Zone Administrative Board, Farmland Protection Board and many others.

Bill is married to Amy Peterson Peck the former five time Olympic Speed Skater.

They have two boys, Hansen (2) and Hudson (1) residing at the farm on West River Road in the Town of Northumberland.
