Who is Melissa Cook?

After completing the Dale Carnegie Course® in Effective Communications and Human Relations in 1983, Ms. Cook became a Certified Dale Carnegie Course® Instructor in 1984.  At the time, she owned and operated a Freelance Court Reporting Agency in Boston, MA, and worked part time for the Boston Federal Court System.
 

In 1986 she was recruited by Dale Carnegie & Associates of Maine and accepted a full-time sales and instructional position. She was promoted to Regional Sales Manager for Western NH and the State of Vermont. As such she was responsible for two sales representatives and all sales and instruction in that territory. She partnered with many accounts in her years as Regional Sales Manager including Merrell, Garmont, IBM, NHBB, Verizon, Peerless Insurance, EMS, and Pepsi.
In 1991 during a sales training seminar in Vermont, Karhu USA invited Ms. Cook to join their Management Team. Over the next 13 years she managed up to 75 employees and $250M worth of business as VP of Operations. Included in her responsibilities were warehouse and distribution, customer service, credit management, sourcing, customs liaison, logistical and IS management.
 

During these years she continued to instruct the Dale Carnegie Course® in Effective
Communications and Human Relations in an avocational capacity for the Vermont Dale Carnegie franchise.
From 2004 to 2007 Ms. Cook became a General Manager and oversaw the start up of a whollyowned North American subsidiary for Exel Oyj Finland. Exel Sports NA successfully launched the new fitness activity of Nordic walking in North America and distributed a full line of crosscountry, Alpine, and trekking poles.
 

In May of 2007, Melissa became a minority owner of Dale Carnegie® of NENY. As such she is in charge of sales, marketing, instruction and operations in Northern New York State. She is thrilled to be back full time with Dale Carnegie® and loves the Albany area and being a New Yorker.
