Whether animals themselves are dancing, people dance about or even as their favorite furry friends, or they are exploring dance partnership together, the animal kingdom sits closely to the world of movement art. This exhibit will offer something for everyone as it will appease the most strict of balletomanes, and will delight the most naive of newcomers. Tails and Terpsichore reminds us that dance is for everyone... tall, thin, thick, young, old, scales, feathers, fur...
Art/ExhibitsSaratoga Farmers' Markethttp://saratoga.org/events/saratoga-event-calendar-view.asp?eventid=24350http://saratoga.org/events/saratoga-event-calendar-view.asp?eventid=24350Wednesday, May 02, 2012 - Wednesday, October 31, 2012
High Rock Park

Good for the environment The average food product from the grocery store has traveled 1300 miles to get to your dinner plate. Farms produce food and fiber, protect open space and provide wildlife habitat, all contributing to our quality of life. Food Security Supporting local farms helps secure our future. A reliable local supply of food is important for times of scarcity, threats of terrorism, and global food contamination issues. A balance of small, mid and large sized farms are all important in the equation. All farms of various sizes occupy important niches in the fabric of today's agricultural landscape. Good for the local economy Farms help keep taxes low as they require fewer community services than land in other uses. Each dollar earned on the farm multiplies 4 times in the local economy– support services for farms are mainly locally owned businesses.
Farmers MarketTang Museum Exhibition: Hearing Pictureshttp://saratoga.org/events/saratoga-event-calendar-view.asp?eventid=25714http://saratoga.org/events/saratoga-event-calendar-view.asp?eventid=25714Wednesday, May 30, 2012 - Sunday, December 30, 2012
Tang Museum, Skidmore College

Hearing Pictures brings together artworks from the Tang Collection to explore the relationship between vision and sound. After delving into the journals, letters and writings of Ralph Waldo Emerson, his wife Lidian and friends Margaret Fuller and Henry David Thoreau and finding them to be unexpectantly revealing of their private feelings and relationships, Reena couldn't resist using their beautiful language to construct a program consisting of a series of skits and commentary. This program will be presented as a dramatic reading and will show the interaction of these sensitive individuals and the social restrictions of the 19th century. Reena has produced this play previously at the New York City Public Library. Come join A.L.L. members, college staff and members of the public to celebrate Lifelong Learning Month with this special lunchtime entertainment.
Performing ArtsJourney of a Lifetime: A Celebration of 100 Yearshttp://saratoga.org/events/saratoga-event-calendar-view.asp?eventid=25576http://saratoga.org/events/saratoga-event-calendar-view.asp?eventid=25576Friday, September 14, 2012
National Museum of Dance and Hall of Fame

Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York invites you: Friday, September 14, 2012 6:30 – 10:30pm National Museum of Dance & Hall of Fame, Saratoga Springs Stationed Fare, Music, Decadent Desserts, Girl Scout Traditions, Unique Silent Auction Tickets are $100 per person Contact alumnae@gsneny.org for more information Honorary Event Chairperson: Sophie Clarke, Winner of “Survivor – South Pacific” Season 23 Proof that Girl Scouts builds leaders of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.
Fundraiser/BenefitLeads to Sucess Luncheonhttp://saratoga.org/events/saratoga-event-calendar-view.asp?eventid=25793http://saratoga.org/events/saratoga-event-calendar-view.asp?eventid=25793Friday, September 14, 2012
11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Lillian's Restaurant

Please join us on Friday, September 14 from 11:30 to 1 p.m. for our Leads to Success Luncheon at Lillian's Restaurant. The music is the main point, but the visuals put the whole thing over the top. Vaudeville era outfits, footlights that cast wild shadows across the ceiling, a homemade voice amplifier plumbed from iron pipes. They revive the early 20th Century with fiddle tunes, hokum blues songs, and ragtime string music. Sheesham plays gourd banjos and fiddles, and Lotus plays an invention called the contra-bass harmoniphoneum, which is a self-contained bass-harmonica and euphonium horn which can be used while plucking a banjo (!), and "Son" brings up the low-end on tuba.
Music-Concert2012 Saratoga Showcase of Homeshttp://saratoga.org/events/saratoga-event-calendar-view.asp?eventid=25358http://saratoga.org/events/saratoga-event-calendar-view.asp?eventid=25358Saturday, September 15, 2012 - Sunday, September 30, 2012
New Construction/Homes in Saratoga County

Now in its 17th year, the Saratoga Showcase of Homes gives you the opportunity to tour the newest homes in Saratoga County built by the area's top, award-winning builders. The show opens Saturday, September 22nd, with an artists’ preview reception on Thursday, September 20th , and a curator's tour on Friday the 21st. All proceeds from the event will benefit conservation of the Foster Sheep Farm, located in the Town of Northumberland in Saratoga County. The 120-acre Foster Sheep Farm is a family-run farm raising sheep, lambs, fleeces, wool, and yarn, with a country yarn shop. Saratoga P.L.A.N. is working in conjunction with the Foster family to fulfill their commitment to ensure that their farm will always remain undeveloped and available for farming and wildlife habitat, continuing to buffer the Hudson River from pollution. Grants from Saratoga County and the Natural Resource Conservation Service are helping purchase the development rights and private funds are being raised by the volunteer fiber artisans for some the transaction costs not covered by the grants. Saratoga P.L.A.N. (Preserving Land and Nature) is a community-based, not-for-profit land conservation organization bringing people and resources together to conserve the lands we love and depend on – farms, forests, natural habitats, streams, and trail corridors. The organization provides community planning, land conservation, and educational services and programs to sustain the Saratoga County region as a great place in which to live, work, play, and visit.
Craft FestivalArts-in-Education Grants Programhttp://saratoga.org/events/saratoga-event-calendar-view.asp?eventid=25194http://saratoga.org/events/saratoga-event-calendar-view.asp?eventid=25194Thursday, September 20, 2012
Greenwich Free Library

Arts-in-Education/Local Capacity Grants (AIE/LCB) Saratoga and Washington Counties Arts-in-Education Program
For Schools in Saratoga and Washington Counties AIE Grants ranging $500-$3,000 are available for partnerships involving at least three contact sessions between a teaching artist or cultural organization and the same core group of students. As a young feminist, she left her home state to travel, Kerouac-style, and was caught up in Reagan-era grassroots politics. Her musical career was ignited by a bootleg recording made around a Kerrville Folk Festival campfire on a Sony Walkman. Released in England as 'The Texas Campfire Tapes' without Shocked's authority, its success abroad enticed Mercury Records to offer the newcomer a recording contract. Ever since she's been a traveler, troubadour, and very popular "picker-poet," as they say in Texas. In her own words, she's "the most sophisticated hillbilly you'll ever meet."
Music-ConcertBlood Drivehttp://saratoga.org/events/saratoga-event-calendar-view.asp?eventid=25987http://saratoga.org/events/saratoga-event-calendar-view.asp?eventid=25987Thursday, September 27, 2012
Stewarts Ice Cream

All blood donors encouraged to attend.
HealthCurator's Tour of Dance/Drawhttp://saratoga.org/events/saratoga-event-calendar-view.asp?eventid=25944http://saratoga.org/events/saratoga-event-calendar-view.asp?eventid=25944Thursday, September 27, 2012
Tang Museum, Skidmore College

Curator's Tour of Dance/Draw Noon- Tang Museum For more information call 518-580-8080 Free and open to the public.
Art/ExhibitsHomeschool Nature Classhttp://saratoga.org/events/saratoga-event-calendar-view.asp?eventid=25867http://saratoga.org/events/saratoga-event-calendar-view.asp?eventid=25867Thursday, September 27, 2012
Saratoga Spa State Park

Join other homeschoolers for Spa Park’s monthly nature class! A fixture in the folk world since the 1960s, Andersen has penned songs recorded by Judy Collins, Linda Ronstadt, John Denver and The Grateful Dead. He enjoyed an early association with poets Alan Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac and Lawrence Ferlinghetti. His musical tribute to that era, Beat Avenue, has led to international appearances with poets commemorating the Beat era. Vans of runners will start the new course in Saratoga Springs, run along the Hudson and Adirondack Lakes, through the region of Lake George and finish in Lake Placid, New York. Ragnar Relay encourages its participants to break the chains of traditional running races by dressing up, decorating their vans, creating life-long memories and having a blast for 30 plus hours. Each Ragnar Relay course is 180 to 200 miles long, divided into 36 legs. Each participant runs three of the 36 legs, in consecutive order. A slap bracelet acts as the relay baton that runners hand off after their section of the course. This leapfrogging pattern continues to the finish where teams are greeted with a finish line party worthy of such stamina, courage and teamwork. Hundreds of teams across the nation have joined together to take on the Ragnar challenge. Join the overnight running relay series that tests the limits of you and your friends over 200 miles. Put another way, they perform deftly crafted, lush, whimsical songs with wide-ranging instrumentation including strings, percussion, vibraphone, trumpet, clarinet, keyboards, guitars, and many voices. They balance the sounds of folk music with sometimes atonal harmonies, pop song-craft with rhythmic complexity, and direct emotional lyrics with dense wordplay. Dan Johnson and his Expert Sidemen are the Capital District's most prominent Americana band, serving as hosts of Valentine's weekly Americana revue. Their forthcoming debut album, Sleep on the Way, showcases the band's rich sonic palette, which includes shades of vintage jazz, bluegrass, honky-tonk, western swing, alt country, anti-folk and more. Pedal steel, accordion, mandolin, banjo, bass, drums and guitars are all stirred together in a spicy musical gumbo. Dan's songs weave tales of woe and then rip them up, allude to myth and legend, repeat idle conversation and whispered gossip. His Expert Sidemen are Pete Murphy (bass), Max Figarsky (drums), Roger Noyes (pedal steel), Brian Elsenbeck (accordion) and Evan Gavry (electric guitar). Join us on October 6th for Zombie Run, where you’re not only racing the clock; you’re also racing from blood thirsty, flesh eating, brain sucking ZOMBIES. How It Works Your primary goal is simple – don’t die! Your secondary goal is to cross the finish line alive in our zombie infested 5K race. Before the race you will be given 3 flags that must be tucked into your shorts and worn with one flag on each hip and one flag on your lower back. These flags represent your lives. It is your goal to finish the race with at least 1 life flag. It is the zombies goal to take all of your lives and maybe a limb or two. Just like in a video game, once all 3 of your lives are gone, you “die”; which means: 1. You must suffer the shame & embarrassment of knowing that you are not fit enough to survive a real zombie apocalypse. 2. You will not be eligible for awards and prizes. In the event you lose all three lives, you will still be able to complete the course and receive an official Zombie Run 5K time and finishers medal. Regardless of race outcome, all participants and spectators are invited to the post-race Survival Bash* at the North Woods Picnic Grove from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Survival Bash includes: Race Awards Ceremony Live Music and Entertainment All-You-Can-Eat Menu: Fire-grilled Hamburgers & Hot Dogs, Tossed Salad, Pasta Salad, Potato Chips, Dill Pickle Spears, Assorted Coca-Cola Beverages, and Ice Cream for Dessert plus BEER (available for purchase) *additional fee, available on race registration form.
