Making A Difference Through Leadership
2008 - 2009

“One thing we can all agree on is that we live in a truly great community. The continued success of a great community depends on its ability to educate itself as to how to maintain its quality of life. Leadership Saratoga provides the skills, knowledge, and networking to guarantee we will remain an excellent place to live and raise a family.”

- Bob Allen, Class of 1986, President, C.T. Male Associates

“One of the secrets of the County’s success has been its ability to generate leaders interested in public service from throughout the County. Many of these men and women gained their start or expertise in Leadership Saratoga, which is an invaluable countywide asset.”

- David Wickerham, County Administrator

“Working with and leading others in a community, volunteer or nonprofit organization is a challenge! I knew a lot about “military” leadership, but Leadership Saratoga provided me with new skills and knowledge to be effective in community based organizations. I especially appreciated learning from others who approached issues and challenges with unique attitudes and perspectives. I strongly recommend this outstanding program.”

- Chuck Phillips, Class of 2000, Board Trustee, Saratoga Springs Cityl School District

“Leadership Saratoga offers candidates the unique opportunity to explore, understand and appreciate multiple facets of our Community. Through this time proven process, we were inspired to positively affect change in the quality of life of those around us. “

- Shelly Amato, Class of 2007, Chief Financial Officer, Wesley Community

Purpose and Results

In the belief that the quality of life in a community depends heavily on the quality of local leadership, the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce sponsors Leadership Saratoga. This countywide program takes individuals with leadership drive, motivation and commitment, and gives them the skills, knowledge and networks they need to assume leadership roles on non-profit and public service boards, as well as in elected and appointed government positions. This program builds upon itself to supply the County with an ever-growing and diverse group and network of leaders who have been trained through the common experience that is Leadership Saratoga.

Entering its 23rd year, Leadership Saratoga has made its mark on the county. Currently, graduates serve on the Boards of Directors of 135 non-profit organizations from Corinth to Clifton Park. Fifty-five graduates have been elected to local Boards of Education, Town Boards, City Councils, the County Board of Supervisors, the County Planning Board, and various Political Parties’ committees. Ten have been appointed to local government positions.
