10 Fun Things To Do Memorial Day Weekend

Need plans for Memorial Day? Saratoga has fun things for the entire family to enjoy this long holiday weekend.

1. Swing Into Summer—Saratoga has some of the best golf in the Northeast and numerous courses to choose from for every level of golfer.  We also have affordable Golf packages and Ultimate Golf packages to enhance your golf getaway.

2.  Good Eats—With over 100 area restaurants and tied only with San Francisco for the most restaurants per capita, Saratoga has cuisine representing countries from around the globe.  Visitors travel to Saratoga just for the culinary experience and to take in award-winning fare.

3.  Outdoor Paradise—Thousands of acres, park lawns and miles of trails await you in Saratoga for hiking, biking, nature walking and more outdoor recreation.  Grab a picnic at one of our beautiful state and local parks and take in the scenery.  Saratoga also has lakes, rivers and creeks for water fun, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and more.

4.  Bring Your Tent or Camper—Saratoga is known as a “city in the country”.  If you like to camp, Saratoga has numerous campgrounds and RV parks, as well as campsites at Moreau Lake State Park.  Memorial Day Weekend is a popular time to start your camping season.

7.  Ride the Waves—One of Saratoga’s best kept secrets is that Saratoga has great Class II and III rapids on the Sacandaga River for family fun whitewater rafting.  Check out one of guide companies or tame the tide yourself.

6.  Find Hidden Treasures – Enjoy the variety of unique boutiques, galleries, antiques, book stores and more throughout Saratoga.  That special something you’ve been looking for might just turn up!

7.  Sing-A-Long—The Annual Pick’n & Sing’n GottaGetGon Festival is fun for the whole family.  Bring your dancing shoes, lawn chairs and good times as the event celebrates the love of folk music through workshops and concerts.  May 25-27, 2012 at the Saratoga County Fairgrounds, rain or shine as all events are held under covered building. 

8.  Horses of Course—Catch live harness racing at the Saratoga Casino & Raceway.  Racing on a beautiful half-mile track since 1941, they willl host action all Memorial Day weekend long, Wednesday through Monday.  The grace, elegance and skill of dressage will be showcased the Annual Dressage at Saratoga held on the historic Saratoga Race Course grounds.  This horse show will take place May 26-27, 2012.

9.  Cruise the Canal—Learn about American Canal history and enjoy a nice day on the water with Champlain Canal Tours.  They open for season May 19th and host several excursions and cruises, as well as special events through October.  On Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, 2012 all veterans and active military members ride for free.

10.  Open for Season—Memorial Day weekend marks the re-opening of several local Saratoga museums and historical sites, including Grant’s Cottage, Saratoga National Historical Park’s Schuyler House and Saratoga Monument, Stillwater Blockhouse, Adirondack Museum and Saratoga Harness Hall of Fame.  Some have opening weekend events.  Check out what’s new and the changing exhibits at these institutes, as well as our other state,  national and local museums.
