Springtime Fun for Everyone in Saratoga, New York
 
Saratoga Springs, NY - In Saratoga this spring, visitors can enjoy the blooming flowers, flowing mineral springs and these events, activities and festivals:  
 
At the historic Spa Little Theater in the beautiful Spa State Park, Home Made Theater presents “The Shuster Series,” a series of play readings that are free and open to the public. Enjoy “The Little Dog Laughed” on April 20, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. Or visitors can take in a Broadway musical, “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” as J.P. Visitors can learn how to “go green” in Saratoga Springs at the Saratoga Environmental Expo. This event, to be held at the Saratoga Springs City Center April 25-27, 2008, will educate consumers on the benefits of “green” living and showcase businesses which provide eco-friendly products and services. Admission is free and open to the public on the 26th and 27th with activities for the entire family. For more information and a schedule of events, visit www.saratogaexpo.com or call 518-584-3272.
 
Join in on the excitement of the Saratoga Springs Mardi Gras Festival, inspired by Saratoga Springs’ sister city, Waveland, Mississippi. Visitors won’t want to miss all the great activities, including the “ARTI Gras” parade, a Cajun cooking competition and tasting festival, a special film event, music and more, Sunday, April 27, 2008. All proceeds to benefit Waveland, Mississippi. and Saratoga County EOC. For an updated schedule of events and further details, visit www.saratogamardigras.org or call 518-366-7952 or 518-469-6769.
 
Spring in Saratoga means plenty of horse shows. St. Clement’s Horse Show is the first outdoor competition in the Northeast.   May 6 through 18, visitors can watch Jumpers and Hunters from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, with no events on the 12th. Admission is $4 per person and children under 12 are free, with all proceeds to benefit the St. Clement’s Catholic School. For more information call 518-587-2623.  Saratoga’s second horse show happens Memorial Day weekend and showcases the beauty and intricate steps of dressage. Dressage at Saratoga at the historic Saratoga Race Track is two days of exhibition riding, Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25, 2008, with free admission for all. For more information, go online to www.enydcta.org.
 
The Saratoga Automobile Museum’s annual Spring Auto Show will fill the grounds of the Saratoga Performing Arts Center with hundreds of automobiles and motorcycles, competing in some two dozen classes. Visitors will be able to get a glance of vintage racers along with contemporary cars from a local chapter of the Sports Car Club of America. This event will be Sunday, May 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The price of show tickets includes museum admission and is $8 per person and children under 12 are free. For more information, visit www.saratogaautomuseum.org or call 518-587-1935.
 
Music will fill the air with the Extended Season Program presented by the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. Visitors will marvel at Tony-nominated jazz vocalist, Ann Hampton Callaway, on Saturday, May 24. Experience a combination of Latin Jazz and traditional Columbian music through the sounds of a harp, trombone and drums with the Edmar Castaneda Trio, on Thursday, May 29. Known for her signature song, “Luka”, Grammy-nominated pop/folk singer, Suzanne Vega, will grace the stage with a mix of over 20 years of her music on Saturday, May 31. All performances are at 8:00 p.m. and will be held at the Spa Little Theater. For more information and tickets, call 518-584-9330 or visit www.spac.org.
