Saratoga’s Arts Scene Takes Center Stage This Summer
 
Saratoga Springs, NY – May 23, 2008 - The arts in all its forms are alive and plentiful this summer in Saratoga County, New York with a diverse selection of cultural events, festivals and exhibits.
 
Saratoga’s newest festival, SaratogaArtsFest, showcases emerging and established artists of local, national and international acclaim, through dance, music, theater, fine art, film and writing. This three-day event takes place at various venues in Saratoga Friday, June 13th through Sunday, June 15th. For a complete schedule of events and to purchase an ARTSPASS, go online to www.saratogaartsfest.org
 
The Freihofer’s Jazz Festival has been entertaining jazz enthusiasts and families for over three decades. The 31st anniversary of this event will take place at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center grounds Saturday, June 28th and Sunday, June 29th, with music starting at noon and going until midnight and 10:00 p.m., respectively.   For more information and music line up, visit www.spac.org or call 518-587-3330. 
 
The Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) has a variety of events to choose from this summer, as the “Magic of SPAC” continues. Known for training its own world-class dancers and creating its own works The New York City Ballet will take residency,Thursday, July 8th through Saturday, July 26th, 2008, forty-two years to the date since its first performance in Saratoga. The Philadelphia Orchestra will take the stage August 6th through 23rd, 2008, Wednesdays to Saturdays. SPAC also hosts a number of music concerts this June, July and August, including Dave Matthews, Rush, Chicago, Brad Paisley and many more. For more information, go online to www.spac.org or call 518-587-3330 or contact the Box Office at 518-476-1000.
 
The Lake George Opera at Saratoga presents three works at the Spa Little Theater, in the Saratoga Spa State Park. The Pirates of Penzance will engage audiences July 3, 6, 9 and 12. The love story, La Traviata, is on stage July 5, 8, 11 and 13. Showings are at 2:00 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. Gianni Schicchi & Buoso’s Ghost will be presented Thursday, July 10th and Saturday, July 12th at 7:30 p.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectfully. For more details, visit www.lakegeorgeopera.org or call 518-584-6018 or 518-587-3330 for tickets.
 
 
The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College presents it free summer concert series Upbeat on the Roof on Friday nights, June 22nd through August 31st. The series is hosted on the museum roof starting at 7:00 p.m. The museum is also home to two major art galleries, twelve exhibits each year and a permanent collection of more than 4,500 pieces. For a schedule of music and exhibit information, call 518-580-8080 or go online to http://tang.skidmore.edu.
 
The Saratoga County Arts Council at The Arts Center has been promoting the arts and cultural diversity for over two decades. The Arts Council offers workshops and classes, an art gallery, showings of independent filmsand special events. The gallery is open Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information, go online to www.saratoga-arts.org or call 518-584-4132.

The Beekman Street Art District is a located a few blocks off Broadway and encompasses art galleries, exhibits, specialty art stores, as well as eateries. Visitors can find a variety of handmade objects made by regional painters, sculptors and designers, or all the materials to make their own works of art.
